# Flavour policies At the moment, busybox comes with three different configuration sets, called "flavours" * deb: For use in regular installations/testing * static: For use in initramfs * udeb: For use in the installer The deb flavour may omit a few apps you can expect to find in any decent installations (e.g. dpkg, ed, passwd, fdisk, cron, tc, telnet). The static flavour should be usable as a standalone system. The udeb flavour should be kept as small as possible as some architectures still have space contraints. Enabling new features possibly should be discussed on debian-boot first. # Upgrade configurations to a new kernel version Syptom: Build breaks at something like | cmp debian/config/pkg/$FLAVOUR debian/build/$FLAVOUR/.config | debian/config/pkg/$FLAVOUR debian/build/$FLAVOUR/.config differ: byte 74, line 3 where $FLAVOUR is one of the flavours (deb static udeb). Instructions: * Build manually debian/rules override_dh_auto_configure * Restore the previous version mv debian/build/$FLAVOUR/.config.old debian/build/$FLAVOUR/.config * Run oldconfig manually make -C debian/build/$FLAVOUR oldconfig Document changes to the feature set in the commit message later. As stated above, for the udeb flavour is virtually always "no". * Apply the changes to debian/config cp debian/build/$FLAVOUR/.config debian/config/pkg/$FLAVOUR * Finishing work * Edit debian/config/pkg/$FLAVOUR and strip the time time in the first lines before. * Check the diff for surprising changes * This needs to be done for all three flavours
